Tarāwīḥ under thirty minutes | Shaykh ʿAbdullāh bin Lamḥ al-Khawlānī

Q: Assalaamualaykum warahmatullaah wabarakātuh. Oh virtuous Shaykh, may Allāh grant you success.
As you know, the Tarāwīḥ here is only for half an hour. So if we were to establish Tarāwīḥ along with our companions or the family with elongation and delaying to the last part of the night, would this be better or the prayer with the Masjid’s Imām?

A: Wa’alaykumussalām warahmatullāhi wabarakātuh. You see it varies from masjid to masjid and from people to people. Some, I mean, the decision which came is fine in and of itself, so they lighten (the prayer) greatly while some of them may pray, perhaps like where we go, it extends to an hour. So the people differ, so perhaps you will find a masjid, that is, they establish the prayer -May Allāh bless you-. Then you may pray with them. Look around, perhaps Allāh may grant you ease in places near you in the nearby neighborhoods. Them pray with them, because the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever stands (praying) with his Imām until he completes, then it is recorded for him that he prayed the whole night”

And once you return to your homes, in the last third of the night, then do not leave off the Qiyām and praying. Perform Wuḍū’ and pray the two rak’ahs of ablution and pray what has been written for you. Two or four rak’ahs, with lengthening, Khushū’, supplication, etc. -May Allāh bless you-. This is a good affair that one prays with the congregation, whatever was written for him. Except that the congregation does not establish the prayer, there is complete lack of Khushū’. Then this is left off, look for alternatives. Otherwise, the basis is that it is found in masjids, those who pray a good prayer. He establishes in it the Rukū’ and prostration, even if there is no prolonging, but in it is completeness, a complete prayer. Pray with them -May Allāh bless you-. until you acquire a night prayer. And then pray whatever you wish in the last third of the night.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
فضيلة الشيخ وفقك الله…
التراويح هنا كما تعرف نصف ساعة فقط
فهل إذا اقمنا التراويح مع الاصحاب
او الأهل بإطالة المدة مع التأخير الى اخر
الليل افضل ام الصلاة مع امام المسجد ؟

وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته.

ترى تختلف من مسجد الى مسجد ومن الناس الى اناس بعضهم. يعني جاء القرار لا بأس به بالنسبة له. فيخففون جداً وبعضهم ربما نحن نصلي. ها نحن الساعة. والناس يختلف فلعلكم تجدون مسجداً. يعني يقيمون الصلاة. بارك الله فيك. فتصلون معهم. انظروا هنا او هنا او هنا لعل الله يشهد في الاماكن القريبة منكم في الاحياء القريبة. وصلوا معهم فان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول مَنْ قَامَ مَعَ الْإِمَامِ حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ كُتِبَ لَهُ قِيَامُ لَيْلَةٍ ثم اذا رجعتم الى بيوتكم في الثلث الاخير من الليل لا تخلوه من القيام والصلاة. توضأوا وصلوا ركعتي الوضوء وصلوا ما كتب لكم. ركعتين او اربعاً بتطويلٍ وخشوع ودعاء الى اخره. الله فيكم. فهذا امرٌ حسن طيب. يصلي الشخص مع الجماعة. ما كتب له. الا جماعة لا تقيم الصلاة. ما في خشوع ابداً. هذا يترك. ينظر غيره. والا فالاصل انه يوجد في المساجد. من يصلي صلاة حسنة. اه يقيم فيها الركوع والسجود وان كان ما يحصل الاطالة لكن تكون تامة صلاة تامة فصلوا معهم بارك الله فيكم. اه حتى تحوز قيام ليلة. وثم صلوا ما شئتم. في الثلث الاخير من الليل.
