His saying -the Most High-,
{يَا أَيهَا الَّذين آمنُوا قوا أَنفسكُم وأهليكم نَارا}
O you who have belief, protect yourselves and your families from a fire (hell)
At-Taḥrīm 66:6
i.e., by your action of obeying Allāh and your ordering them to obey Allāh. It is said: Discipline them, teach them, and guide them to goodness. And it has come in some odd reports,
“Hang the whip where your family can see it.”
Meaning: as a form of discipline.
ʿAmr bin Qays al-Malāʾeī said: Verily a woman would argue with her husband on the Day of Judgment in front of Allāh and she would say: ❝Indeed he would not discipline me nor would he teach me anything. He would only bring me bread from the market.❞
It is said:
{قوا أَنفسكُم وأهليكم نَارا}
Protect yourselves and your families from a fire
Meaning: Protect yourselves from a fire and protect your families from a fire with what we have mentioned, and this is the meaning of the verse.

قَوْله تَعَالَى: {يَا أَيهَا الَّذين آمنُوا قوا أَنفسكُم وأهليكم نَارا} أَي: بفعلكم طَاعَة الله، وأمركم إياهن بِطَاعَة الله. وَيُقَال: أدبوهن وعلموهن ودلوهن على الْخَيْر. وَفِي بعض الغرائب من الْأَخْبَار: ” علق السَّوْط حَيْثُ يرَاهُ أهلك ” يَعْنِي: بالتأديب. وَعَن عَمْرو بن قيس الْملَائي قَالَ: ” إِن الْمَرْأَة لتخاصم زَوجهَا يَوْم الْقِيَامَة عِنْد الله فَتَقول: إِنَّه كَانَ لَا يؤدبني، وَلَا يعلمني شَيْئا، كَانَ يأتيني بِخبْز السُّوق. وَقيل: قوا أَنفسكُم وأهليكم نَارا أى: قوا أَنفسكُم نَارا وقوا أهليكم نَارا بِمَا ذكرنَا، وَهُوَ تَقْدِير الْآيَة.
