A Principle of Patience | Ibn Taymiyyah

﷽

The Sixteenth (Principle):

❝Whoever becomes accustomed to seeking revenge and does not show patience will inevitably fall into oppression.

This is because the soul does not restrict itself to [obtaining] the precise level of justice due to it, neither knowledgeably nor intentionally. Perhaps it is unable to limit itself to the measure that is rightfully due to it, because anger leads a person to a point where he does not comprehend what he is saying and doing. Thus, whilst he was oppressed, anticipating victory and honor (from Allāh), he turns into an oppressor awaiting hatred and punishment (from Allāh).❞

Ibn Taymiyyah, Qāʿidah fiṣ-Ṣabr 1/102
