Q: It is common in Nigeria that Muslim youth express their love of Āyatollāh Khomeini1 and support for the Iranian Islamic Revolution. These youth think that in today’s Muslim world, there is no state that applies Allāh’s Rulings except Iran and that there is no true Muslim leader except Āyatollāh Khomeini. Now these views have started to spread widely in Nigeria. Therefore, we would like you to provide us with a sufficient explanation of the truth of the Iranian Shīʿites, the leader of their state Āyatollāh Khomeini, and what he calls people to?
Allāh Willing, we will translate this explanation into Hausa, our mother tongue, and into English so that we may get rid of these views, for every month the Republic of Iran sends many books to the Muslims of Nigeria. We appreciate your advice. May Allāh reward you well and bless you!
A: As to the claim that in today’s Muslim world Iran is the only state that abides by Allāh’s rules and that there is no true Muslim leader but Āyatollāh Khomeini, it is sheer falsehood and a lie. The reality of Iran and their creed and the ideas of their leader are witness to this.
For example, the Twelver Imamite Shīʿah2 report from their Imams that the codex of the Qurʾān collected by ʿUthmān bin ʿAffān -may Allāh be pleased with him- at the hands of the Companions who had memorized it, was falsified, distorted, and altered. They claim that some of the Qurʾān’s words and sentences were substituted and some Āyahs (Qurʾānic verses) and Sūrah’s were omitted. For more information in this regard, refer to, “Faṣl al-khiṭāb fī ithbāt taḥrīf kitāb Rabb al-arbāb” (The Final Verdict Proving the Corruption of the Book of the Lord of the Lord’s) a book by Ḥusayn bin Muḥammad Taqī An-Nūrī Aṭ-Ṭabarsī. In this book the writer claims that the Qurʾān was distorted. Also you may refer to the books of other writers who defend the Shīʿites like “Minhāj Al-Karāmah” by Ibn Al-Muṭahhar.
They also overlook the source books of authentic Sunnah like the two Ṣāḥiḥ (authentic) books of Al-Bukhārī and Muslim. They do not consider them source books for them to derive evidences of legal rulings of ʿAqīdah (creed) and Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) thereof. They do not even depend on them in interpreting and explaining the Qurʾān. In fact, they have fabricated books on Ḥadīth and established unsound rules in this concern. They depend on these fabricated books to distinguish the authentic from the weak reports.
Moreover, among their basic fundamentals for deriving the judgments is the statements of the twelve infallible imāms they claim.
How can they then have the knowledge of the Qurʾān, the authentic Sunnah, and the rules and judgments of Sharīʿah to lead the Iranian nation according to the rules of Sharīʿah?
How then can they claim that there is no true Muslim leader except Āyatollāh Khomeini who once stated, “An Imām has a praised position, a high status, and a universal caliphate to rule even the atoms of the universe. It is one of the basic principles of our school that our imams are endowed with ranks that no honorable angel or a sent prophet can reach.” (Refer to “Al-Ḥukūmah Al-Islāmiyyah”3 under the title: “Al-Wilāyah At-Takwīniyyah”, p.52)
This is nothing but explicit fabrication and obvious falsehood. We advise you to refer to “Mukhtaṣar al-Tuḥfah al-Ithna ʿAshariyyah” by the polymath Maḥmūd Shukrī al-Alūsī, “Al-Khuṭūṭ Al-ʿArīḍah”; a treatise by Muḥibbuddīn Al-Khaṭīb, “Minhāj al-Sunnah al-Nabawīyah fī naqḍ kalām al-Shīʿah wal-Qadarīyah” by Shaykh Aḥmad bin ʿAbdul-Ḥalīm ibn Taymiyyah, and “Al-Muntaqā min Minhāj As-Sunnah” by Adh-Dhahabī.

- Ayatollah Khomeini (17 May 1900 – 3 June 1989), one of the most ardent Shīʿite figures who hated Arabs in general and Ahlussunnah in particular, was of Indian descent. He led a Shīʿite revolution in Iran that seized power. He authored the book “Kashf al-Asrār (Uncovering Secrets)” and “Al-Ḥukūmah Al-Islāmiyyah (The Islamic Government)”. His books contain blasphemy and deviation that only Allāh knows. He advocated the concept of the Guardianship of the Jurist (Wilayat al-Faqīh). At the beginning of his rule, he promoted general Islamic slogans, but he soon revealed a malicious, fanatical, and narrow Shīʿite tendency, far removed from the religion and tolerance of Islam. He expressed a strong desire to export his revolution to the rest of the Islamic world. He took measures, some of which, along with other factors, led to an eight-year war with Iraq. ↩︎
- The Twelver Shīʿah are those who claim that ʿAli is more deserving of the inheritance of the caliphate than Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthman -may Allāh be pleased with them all-. They were called Imāmiyyah because they made the imamate their primary concern. They were also called Twelvers because they believed in twelve imāms, the last of whom, according to their claim, entered the cellar in Samarra (and went into occultation). ↩︎
- Imām Muqbil -rahimahullāh- had declared Āyatollāh Khomeini to be a Kafir in his book, Al-Musāraʿah (p.126-127), because of this statement and other statements of his. The book “Al-Ḥukūmah Al-Islāmiyyah” was distributed by Embassy of Iran in Yemen. ↩︎

س: لقد انتشر في بلاد نيجيريا حب آية الله خميني وثورته الشيعية الإيرانية في شباب المسلمين، ويرى هؤلاء الشباب أنه لا يوجد لدى العالم الإسلامي دولة تحكم بما أنزل الله إلا الدولة الإيرانية ولا يوجد رئيس دولة مسلم إلا آية الله خميني، والآن بدأت دعوتهم تنتشر في نيجيريا لذلك نرجو منكم توضيحا كافيا عن حقيقة الشيعة الإيرانية ورئيس هذه الدولة آية الله خميني وما يدعو إليه وإن شاء الله إذا وجدنا ذلك سنحاول ترجمته بلغتنا الهوسا واللغة الإنجليزية حتى نتخلص من هذه العقيدة في بلادنا؛ لأن الجمهورية الإيرانية يرسلون للمسلمين في نيجيريا كتبا كثيرة في كل شهر فأفتونا جزاكم الله خيرا وبارك الله فيكم.
ج: ما زعمه هؤلاء الشبان من أنه لا يوجد في العالم الإسلامي دولة تحكم بما أنزل الله إلا الدولة الإيرانية، ولا يوجد رئيس دولة مسلم إلا آية الله الخميني – زعم باطل، بل كذب وافتراء، يشهد بذلك واقع الدولة الإيرانية ورئيسها عقيدة وعلما، فإن الشيعية الإمامية الإثني عشرية قد نقلوا في كتبهم عن أئمتهم أن القرآن الذي جمعه عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه عن طريق حفاظ القرآن من الصحابة محرفا بالزيادة فيه والنقص منه وبتبديل بعض كلماته وجمله، وبحذف بعض آيات وسور منه يعرف ذلك من قرأ كتاب [فصل الخطاب في تحريف كتاب رب الأرباب] الذي ألفه حسين بن محمد تقي النوري الطبرسي في تحريف القرآن وأمثاله مما ألف انتصارا للرافضة، ودعما لمذهبهم كـ[منهاج الكرامة] لابن المطهر، كما أنهم يعرضون عن دواوين السنة الصحيحة كصحيحي البخاري ومسلم فلا يعتبرونها مرجعا لهم في الاستدلال على الأحكام عقيدة وفقها، ولا يعتمدون عليها في تفسير القرآن وبيانه، بل استحدثوا كتبا في الحديث وأصلوا لأنفسهم أصولا غير سليمة يرجعون إليها في تمييز الضعيف في زعمهم من الصحيح، وجعلوا من أصولهم الرجوع إلى أقوال الأئمة الإثني عشر المعصومين في زعمهم، فمن أين يكون لديهم من علم القرآن المتواتر والسنة الصحيحة، وقواعد الشريعة الثابتة وأحكامها ما يطبقون على قضايا أمتهم الإيرانية التي يحكمونها؟! وكيف يقال مع ذلك:لا يوجد رئيس دولة مسلم إلا آية الله الخميني وهو القائل في كتابه [الحكومة الإسلامية] تحت عنوان الولاية التكوينية ص٥٢: (إن للأئمة مقاما محمودا ودرجة سامية وخلافة تكوينية تخضع لولايتها وسيطرتها جميع ذرات هذا الكون وأن من ضروريات مذهبنا أن لأئمتنا مقاما لا يبلغه ملك مقرب، ولا نبي مرسل) . اهـ.
إن هذا لهو الكذب الفاضح والبهتان المبين وننصحك بقراءة كتاب [مختصر التحفة الإثني عشرية] للعلامة محمود شكري الألوسي، ورسالة [الخطوط العريضة]لمحب الدين الخطيب، وكتاب [منهاج السنة النبوية في نقض كلام الشيعة والقدرية] للعلامة الشيخ أحمد بن عبد الحليم بن تيمية وكتاب [المنتقى من منهاج السنة]للذهبي.
